Revisiting Video Game Sports through Stats, Highlights, and Stories

Have you been reading STAT BOX STORIES and think that you have game experiences of your own to share?  Has your favorite team been involved in a featured match-up here and taken a loss that you want to rectify in a rebuttal post?  Whatever the case may be, you are welcome to submit guest content to STAT BOX STORIES for the opportunity to be shared on the website.

Here are some quick guidelines to consider if you decide you want to put together a guest story:

  1. Any sports game may be used, though it is–for practical reasons–best to use one of the four major titles featured on this site or at least a recent video game release which easily supports in-game statistical tracking and photo/video highlights.  For example–though I would gladly welcome somebody putting together a guest entry using RBI Baseball for the original Nintendo Entertainment System–there would be significantly more work involved in getting highlight or statistical information to share compared to the ease of using a current-generation game like MLB 11 The Show.
  2. The average entry here on the site runs between 700 and 1,000 words in length.  There will be no dictated minimum word count for guest stories submitted for consideration, but that range can be used as a rough guide.
  3. Even though the games here on the site tend to be user-versus-computer, guest stories can be based on online games if that’s your preferred game mode.
  4. Remember to save photo and/or video highlights from the game you play.  Using current-generation games makes this significantly easier, as many games support the upload of photo or video highlights to dedicated web servers.  Not having any highlights won’t completely discount your guest story from consideration, but if there is ever a “logjam” of submitted work waiting to be featured, any “tie-breakers” will go to content which has multiple highlights.
  5. Remember to track the statistics of the game you played.  If you want to use the base templates used in the entries here at STAT BOX STORIES, access can be given to those files.  If you want to put together your own design for how you display the game statistics with your story, that is encouraged as well.  However–considering the name of this site and the focus of the entries–guest stories should at minimum have a box score, scoring summary, and team statistics tracked.
  6. Include a guest author biography to accompany your post so that proper authorship can be given when/if your guest entry is posted to the website.  The biography should include your name, any online alias you use, any website you may own or belong to, etc.

Guest stories will NOT be considered for publication if:

  1. There is any profanity or inflammatory content in the story.  It’s fine to playfully jab at the opposing team if you’re submitting the write-up of a rivalry game, but do so in a way which is respectful of the public nature of this site.
  2. There is no statistical information included whatsoever.  Again, this is STAT BOX STORIES; a guest entry without any statistics doesn’t fit the founding concept of the website.

Guest entries should be submitted to paakaa10@gmail.comSubmissions considered suitable for posting as a guest entry will be contacted to let you know the scheduled date that the story will be published.
